There are reports that a Norse trader headed here has spotted land never seen before by Europeans after a storm drove him off course.
Determined to spend the winter with his father in Greenland. Bjarni Herjolfsson and his crew battled a violent storm three days after sailing from Iceland and were driven far south off their course.
When the storm abated, Herjolfsoon and his men sailed for a day until they sighted a forested and hilly land. That sighting marks the first time Europeans have seen the shoreline of what may be a new continent on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean.
